Florence Sommerville and band kick off the Country Roads country and Americana shows at Acanteen in Chelmsford this Thursday (12 June). Special guest on the night is Manchester artist Louise Conner.
Florence, from Orsett in Essex, is touring extensively and is just back from Nashville where she played the iconic Bluebird Café. She releases her latest album in July so gig goers will get a great chance to experience new songs ahead of release.
Ian Flavill is co-organiser of the event series. He said: “The focus is on new and original music and artists rather than cover and tribute acts. Each month there will be a headliner and a special guest to guarantee a high-quality show.”
Ian Flavill and Madeline Christy set off on Country Sounds
Ian, of Alter States Promotions, has brought quality country and Americana artists to Chelmsford over the years. Ian’s promoted sold out shows, including Annie Keating and Ags Connolly, at Hot Box. He also hosts a monthly country music radio show on City Sound called Country Roads.
Acclaimed DJ, Madeline Christy of Phoenix 98 FM, is his partner in this musical venture. Madeline presents The Nightshift country music radio show.
Ian said: “Chelmsford has one dedicated music venue, the excellent Hot Box, which is primarily a standing venue.
The Country Roads event series at Acanteen allows music to be presented in a seated environment. People can have food as well as drinks. Acanteen is an extremely comfortable and aesthetically attractive environment for country and Americana music.”
Looking ahead
The Country Roads at Acanteen shows will run on the second Thursday of each month. You can buy tickets for all shows in advance via ethical Grassroots ticket agency www.good-show.co.uk.
