I am delighted to share with you an interview with Joan Wasser aka Joan As Police Woman. We spoke ahead of the release of her Real Life Evolution LP, which marks the twentieth anniversary of her acclaimed debut Real Life. Real Life Evolution is out now on Reveal Records.
People ask me all the time: “Do you ever get tired of playing your old songs?” The answer is an unequivocal no. And if I ever did, I’d reinvent them until the joy came back – not as an act of revision, but of rediscovery. Songs live beyond their creators. Like us, they settle into themselves over time, finding their own equilibrium. That spirit is the pulse of this new album – ten reimagined versions of every song from the original Real Life.

Joan was extremely relaxed, insightful, and charming as she chilled between the two Lollapaloosa weekends. At the concerts, she provided backing vocals and piano for Iggy Pop, no less. Naturally, we chat about Mr Osterberg and Anohni and the Johnsons and listen to a selection of incredible songs. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a fascinating, revealing conversation. Please enjoy.
