A celebration of the life and music of the dearly missed maverick musician, Mark Linkous, of the hugely influential alt-rockers Sparklehorse, is upcoming. Even Butterflies Make A Sound and Ben Stanbury are delighted and honoured to host the event at Hot Box on Wednesday, 27 August 2023.

On this special night, fans will have the opportunity to come together, express their emotions, and reminisce about the captivating music that Mark, and his band Sparklehorse, brought into the world.
Tickets are just £7 (£10 on the door) and available here from DICE. All proceeds will go to ANDYSMANCLUB.
Bird Machine listening party
First up, the new, posthumous, Sparklehorse LP Bird Machine will receive a listening party. It will be fantastic to hear in a club setting.
Mark committed suicide in March 2010. The fear was the music he had been working on had been lost in his vast archive. Happily, however, Mark’s brother, Matt, discovered a nearly completed album. Then Matt, his wife Melissa, and a band of Mark’s closest collaborators set about the arduous task of completing Mark’s work.
Matt told The New York Times: “What do you do with someone else’s art? Music was so incredibly important to my brother. It saved him at times, and he meant every note. He did this stuff for people to hear. It needed to be out there.”
Sparklehorse fans can pay tribute to the band
After the listening party, people are warmly welcome to pay tribute to Mark and his music. Floor spots will be available to cover Sparklehorse songs, read a poem, or share a piece of prose inspired by Mark. Please send an email to contact@evenbutterfliesmakeasound.com to reserve a spot or comment below.
Sparklehorse documentary exclusive screening
The feature-length documentary, The Sad and Beautiful World of Sparklehorse, brings the occasion to a fitting climax. The film illuminates Mark’s dramatic life from his coalminer’s son upbringing to working with some of music’s biggest names. It also features interviews with David Lynch, Matt Linkous, Jonathon Donahue and Grasshopper (Mercury Rev), Ed Harcourt, among many others.
Conclusion
Please join us for what promises to be a bitter-sweet celebration of the life and music of Mark Linkous.
