Not Me But Us @ Radio City Social
Even Butterflies Make A Sound is delighted to announce that Not Me But Us will play a free show at Radio City Social on Friday, 17 May 2024. The maverick Ewanwhosarmy provides valued support.
The Naples duo visits the UK for a short run of shows to promote their outstanding debut LP, Two.
Not Me But Us created in unusual fashion
The back story to the LP is an unusual one. The act, comprising Bruno Bavota (the pianist and composer who records for Temporary Residence and Believe) and Fabrizio Somma (a producer and composer aka K-Conjog), were unexpectedly pitched together to create some music for the Capital of Culture 2022.
The interaction was so natural and playful that it quickly evolved into something much more serious and complex. Consequently, the pair worked together in the studio for several months.
Two is a compendium of their influences with echoes of ambient, techno, 2000s club culture, post-classical, and vague hints of post-rock. This implies something icy and cold and not particularly ‘fun’. However, the duo’s great strength is precisely the balance of an apparently serious sound with something extremely vivid and vital.
On Two, out now on Sonic Cathedral, the air of ethereal melancholy contrasts with a palette of bright colours that, in their own way, reflect the environment where the music was born. Naples is a lively city where in recent years anything can happen and most often does, where apparent difficulties turn into new opportunities.
Final thoughts
Playing with sounds and existence, Not Me But Us (named after a piece of graffiti they observed) is already so much more than just a side-project for Bruno and Fabrizio. It’s a proper band which has its own life not just on record, but also for live experiences.
