Sounds Good 2024

Sounds Good 2024 is nearly here! Held over two days at four venues – Hot Box, Chelmsford Theatre Studio, Voodoo Keller Bar, and the City Centre Stage – it’s Chelmsford‘s latest multi-venue music festival.

Dave Hughes, owner of the not-for-profit venue Hot Box, said: “Sounds Good Festival is more than just a music event; it’s a celebration of the grassroots movement that keeps live music thriving in our communities. We’re proud to showcase such a diverse range of talent in Chelmsford. And to offer young volunteers the chance to learn the ropes in the industry. This is all about fostering the next generation of music lovers and professionals. We’re excited to bring this unique experience to our city.”

He added: “The furthest you will need to walk is 0.3 miles between the town centre and Civic Theatre. Even I can do that.”

Exciting, emerging, and established UK artists

Nearly forty acts are scheduled to play. Way too many artists and genres for me to type out! Best thing to do is to head over to the Sounds Good 2024 website. More info about all the incredible artists, ticket details, merchandise, and much more can be found. Please pay special attention to the ticketing arrangements for the city centre stage.

Local council involvement

Marc De’ath, Culture Services Manager, Chelmsford City Council, said:
“The Sounds Good Festival is a heartfelt celebration of our local and
emerging artists, bringing our community together through the
universal language of music.

In a time when grassroots music venues are disappearing at an alarming
rate, it’s more important than ever to support places like Hot Box.
These venues are the lifeblood of our music scene, and they need our
help to not just survive, but to flourish.

Chelmsford’s Cultural Strategy envisions ‘a coherent and inspiring
programme of high-quality festivals and celebrations embracing all
ages and cultural interests. Global artists alongside grassroots
creativity will embrace professionals, amateurs, and volunteers, with
adaptable delivery connecting the district’.

At Chelmsford City Council, we are eager for our residents and
visitors to enjoy creative talent right on their doorstep. This is
exactly what the Sounds Good Festival is all about.”

Final thoughts

What the Hot Box crew, and its partners, have achieved in setting up this festival is nothing short of miraculous. Chelmsford music-lovers in their droves should recognise and reward the organisers’ dedication and tenacity. See you there.
