Chelmsford will enjoy a fabulous night of music this coming Saturday. From psyche-rock to retro-futurist electronica to funk to surfadellic pop. The county town has got loads going down.
Randall + Alison + Undine
Listed in no particular order. Actually, that’s not strictly true as my son’s band kicks this triple header off so forgive any bias, please.
Chelmsford indie-funk rockers, Randall, headlines The Bassment to celebrate the release of the band’s debut EP. Yours truly interviewed the fellas as part of Paul Dupree’s Transmission show. Click the image below to hear the buzz about Randall.
Bizarrely, sonic architects Alison could be described as their scene’s elders nowadays, despite their relative youth. They bring their carefully constructed honed wall of sound in support of their great mates – both the headliners and the opening act.
Which is Undine. They kick off proceedings at 19:30. This is their second-ever gig and anticipation is high. In this house at least. It says here: “Undine. A newly formed guitar-based group harkening to the heavy and experimental sounds of psychedelia and grunge. Drawing from the established worlds of punk, hardcore, and the dynamics of early shoegaze.”
The organisers released extra tickets to accommodate latecomers after the original ticket allocation sold out. Buy in advance to avoid disappointment at the door. Tickets cost £5 through Fatsoma.

GSD + MetroGlow
Meanwhile, a short walk from The Bassment, GSD, aka Leo Robarts, singer in Sweet Crisis, brings his sunshine-infused funk that is just perfect for these hot summer days.
Support comes from the creative collective MetroGlow, featuring Crispin Coulson and Chris Piper who are long-time friends of these pages. Fusing motorik rhythms, infectious house grooves, and ambient dreamy textures, MetroGlow is a thrilling live experience.
Tickets are £13.20 and are available on DICE.

Trunk of Funk
Last, and certainly not least, the aforementioned Paul Dupree and City Sound Radio Crew will be bringing their Trunk of Funk to The UB in New Writtle Street. Expect the finest 80s and 90s dance, soul and R&B from 8 pm in the garden. Free entry and a great bar.
Final thoughts
Chelmsford is sure to enjoy so much cool music this Saturday. There are sure to be other events at venues all over the city. Why not get out and support the local scene?
