So, it’s time to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Even Butterflies Make A Sound. It’s been quite the journey.
I featured so many fantastic acts, bands and soloists, both international and those breaking through. Sincere thanks to all the artists who lent me their precious time for interviews.
Also, I promoted more than a few acts in Chelmsford. And, I was utterly delighted to co-release an LP with one of my longstanding friends.
Please join me as I proudly present this short round-up. Hope you enjoy reminiscing as much as I have.
A break into radio
In a moment of huge serendipity, one of the blog’s biggest supporters, Paul Dupree, broadcast a compilation of interviews that I contributed, over the past year, to his excellent Transmission radio show on City Sound Radio. Thanks so much to Paul and crew for this opportunity.
The radio interview compilation features some actual legends: Jah Wobble (of PiL fame), Johnny Echols (Love), and Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine). Solo artist Mary Lovett is also included, who’s not a household name yet but getting there. Have a listen by clicking the image below.

Andy McCulloch
I am a music writer, blogger, and promoter. I originally established Even Butterflies Make A Sound to re-publish music reviews I published last century. However, the blog has taken on a life of it’s own and is the better for that. Please enjoy not so responsibly. Photo by Nadia @Morganistik
To mark the anniversary, I will be giving away a copy of Remain in Love. This is the excellent autobiography by the former Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club sticksman Chris Frantz. Check out this blog’s book review here. See below to enter.*

A foray into the music business proper
A year ago, my dear friend Ian Griffiths released the final LP by his band Kontakte. It followed the shockingly early passing of his musical sparring partner Stuart Low. You can read about the creation of the album here. There are a few copies left to buy. While rummaging around Bandcamp this morning, I came across the recording, so naturally gave it a spin. You are advised to pick up a copy. It’s a future classic.
Live show promotions
Over these past years, I’ve been active in promoting bands at Chelmsford’s Hot Box and Radio City Social:
An eclectic mix I’m sure you’ll agree. Acts drawn from across the musical spectrum presented outstanding performances that will live long in my memory for sure.
Here’s to the next four years!
Many thanks to all the loyal readers over the years and welcome to newcomers. I hope you continue to enjoy the features and interviews as much as I do creating them.
Future articles slated to appear on this blog will include musician, producer/remixer, DJ, and videomaker Simon Heartfield, Chelmsford-based aural assaulters Concrete Hyena, and industrial rockers Pitchshifter.
So be sure to tune in!
